ABOUT US In 1975 Don Doleshal, the inventor and developer of the"Pilecap" system, dove head first into an underwater diving business that specialized in the inspection and repair of pipelines throughout the United States. His business prospered, and today it is a successful and ongoing operation. After establishing a solid customer base within the oil and gas industry a number of his clients suggested that he undertake the project of "painting" their dock facilities. Being an accommodating contractor, he undertook a number of these projects, but to his chagrin; did not achieve the satisfactory results on the underwater structures that the customers desired. The failure of the project always seemed to be hinged around the fact that a proper surface preparation was not being achieved. The first thing that would happen after cleaning the piling, a splash of water would contaminate the surface with anything that may be suspended or floating in the water at the time. While trying to solve the various problems he tried a number of different methods such as, high tech underwater curing epoxy's, which proved to be too labor intensive and did not bond well to the piling. He also tried various types of tape wraps, they would sag and could easily be damaged. He also tried plastic jackets banded around the piling, but this tended to only hide the problem. It quickly became apparent that the technology had not been sufficiently developed to protect the piling from constant corrosion and deterioration. However, the clients still needed their dock facilities repaired. It became obvious that a new approach needed to be developed. He discovered that the secret to the solution would be the ability to control the environment throughout all phases of the coating encapsulation operation. Years of dedication to research and development eventually lead to the results he was hoping for, and on July 13, 1993, the United States patent office issued the first of many patents. The patent was assigned to Pilecap Incorporated, who by the way, is actively applying for numerous foreign patents. I'm sure the future holds many new challenging adventures for Pilecap Incorporated. Thank you for your interest. |
