| Pilecap Underwater Pile Encapsulation
System
Objective:
To achieve maximum deterioration control through the use of underwater
coatings. Encapsulation provides coating for protection on existing piling
that still exhibits acceptable structural strength.
Background:
After years of actual in-field use of underwater coatings, failure was
always the inevitable outcome. Realizing the need, Pilecap finally has developed
the answer to your coating problems.
The key to proper coating application is
surface preparation. The patented Pilecap Underwater Encapsulation System , U.S.
Patent No. 5226751, allows controlling the environment underwater so a proper
surface preparation can be achieved and maintained throughout the duration of
the coating process.
|
Product Definition:
-Pilecap can be applied to various types of
underwater structures including an assortment of piling, bridge
abutments, riser pipes, etc. The Pilecap System focuses on the need to
produce a controlled environment throughout the coating process ensuring
that all phases are maintained contaminant free.
|
-The encapsulation jackets can then be removed
and reused on another pile, helping to reduce costs. If structural
integrity is sought, the jackets can be pre-coated and left in place (or
made from stainless steel).
|
|
General Procedures:
-A rigid jacket is completely sealed, controlling the environment,
around a partially underwater or completely submerged pile.
-A process within the jacket prepares the
surface, and dries the encapsulated area now ready to accept the
coating.
-The
encapsulant is injected, filling the dry void between the inner wall of
the jacket and the base structure.
|
Results:
Through the utilization of the Pilecap
System an intimate bond is achieved between the encapsulant and
the pile providing superior protection.
