Objective:
Answer the age old problem of pile corrosion and deterioration in
the splash zone area.
Background:
The major problem has always been that after installing
a new pile it immediately starts to deteriorate. This
happens because of small scrapes and cracks in the
previously applied coating which continues to increase in
size do to the outside environmental attack up on the base
metal to make the pile. Underwater coatings are only a
temporary patch and over a short period of time they fail
because of impossible surface preparation and again
environmental attack.
Pilecap Solution:
Pile wrap systems have always been used with some
success. Eventually the outer sleeves that are designed to
secure and protect the corrosion resistant tape fail. The
tape is not designed to withstand the splash zone
environment on its own it quickly goes away. It requires a
tough permanent cover. This is where Perma-PileTM comes
in.
Procedure:
Utilizing Pilecap's patented structural friction coupler
technology, the Perma-Pile system is designed to protect the
tape wrap in every environment. Perma-Pile is designed
especially for protection against hydraulic activity, ice
buildup, debris, and salt water. Pilecap's Perma-Pile
technology uses a proprietary coating system to pre-coat
quarter inch steel jackets that can be engineered for any
size or shape including H-Piles. Prior to installation,
Pile-Bond 690 epoxy sealing system is applied to seal the
upper and lower ends of the corrosion control jacket, then
all is assembled with stainless steel bolts, washers and
nuts and torqued to designed specifications.
Results:
All permanent materials for a permanent fix.
